The First Rain

Cloud seems the pick of the day. Folks round the world are biting their nails thinking about "Cloud Computing" and "The Ash Clouds of Iceland". Although, only very few of them are quite sure how to tackle the obstacles and challenges that these "clouds" throws at us. I termed "obstacles and challenges" but the idea was to symbolize the ample amount of "opportunities" that these clouds have to offer in the form of these obstacles and challenges. It’s about perception how you take a rain; as an obstacle; as a challenge or as an opportunity to quench your thirst. I am just trying to explore how?

Clouds (the natural raining clouds) can offer three things which I have mainly noticed- 1. Cover 2. Rain 3. Thunder. Each one has its own natural and scientific significance in our context of need. Let's not go in detail in this. I am sure, all of us have spent sometime during our childhood days analyzing the different shapes these clouds used to take. While, writing this article I turned towards window and spent two minutes watching the clouds in the sky and they made me smile for a while with the thoughts that now I find clouds in block diagrams only. And this whole world seems to be running behind a virtual cloud in the sky of internet which does not rain but can show you the first raining clouds over India while sitting in US. This virtual cloud is network of computers which have manifested object oriented concepts as service oriented applications. This is where the whole IT
industry is looking for rain.

Similar to the natural clouds, this virtual cloud has also three major things on offer which I could perceive with my limited knowledge. 1. Mobility 2. Connectivity 3. Computing which is heading us to windows of innovations. Static desktops will probably be washed away in its rain because the future is mobility and connectivity. The word static is now equivalent to limitations. Armed only with an internet connection, a very tiny simple lightweight OS and a browser in any tiny device you can connect to everything else which is on offer, available in the virtual world of this cloud. iPAD, iPhone, Droid phones are already providing the windows to peep in to these clouds. I am trying to understand and explore what it can lead to and I am surprised. It's the future.

A simple mathematical interpretation which I think should be enough to convince most of the minds like me can be :( please note there is always a scope of improvement)

Cloud Computing = ((Mobility + Connectivity) + Computing) x (cheaper price + smaller size + lighter weight + extremely longer battery life)
= simplified hardware configurations - (licenses + upgrades)
= FUTURE

I can see the days coming when we will be able to do our office work comfortably from a simple cell phone like device without installing any software. And who knows some device called iRain will appear which MNCs will provide to all its employees to work around and quench our thirst over their own private/public Clouds from anywhere round the globe. We will then witness the first virtual rain.
